Me
Sam Kimberley Carter
BSc (Hons) Physiotherapist, MCSP, HPC, AACP
I am a chartered physiotherapist, certified APPI Pilates instructor and qualified Acupuncturist.
I qualified as a chartered physiotherapist in 2009 and have worked in musculoskeletal physiotherapy for the last 9 years, previously in the NHS & privately. I have successfully treated a variety of clients with conditions ranging from low back pain, sporting injuries, post surgical rehabilitation and recovery from trauma. I have continued to progress my training through attending courses to extend my knowledge and skills, such as acupuncture, rock taping and manual therapy techniques.
I qualified as a certified APPI Pilates instructor in 2012 and have been teaching both rehabilitation and performance Pilates of varying levels. Being a physiotherapist allows me to tailor exercises to suit individual needs and help rehab injuries as well as giving me an excellent knowledge of anatomy and physiology. My Pilates training includes the full modified clinical Pilates repertoire, Pilates for runners, Pilates for horse riders, ante & post natal Pilates and the use of various types of equipment within Pilates and rehabilitation.
I also specialise in working with the equestrian athlete. i have completed level 1 & 2 training with Andy Thomas and use his Testt method in my ridden assessments. I have a long history riding, competing & working with riders, providing me with background knowledge to rehabilitate horse riders and teach pilates to improve rider performance. I currently work independently and alongside instructors to assess & treat rider biomechanics, and rider profiling. I specialise in working with horse riders and thoroughly enjoy my work helping the equestrian athlete to gain the most from their performance, whether happy hacker or professional.
I have grown up in an equestrian family of various disciplines including showjumping, eventing and racing and have been riding since a very young age. My riding experience developed into focusing on affiliated showjumping competitively, including placings as hickstead, festival of showjumping, scope, blue chip championships and county shows. Combined with this I also now enjoy dressage training & competition, and Eventing. The future will see me increasing my skill set by training in veterinary physiotherapy, allowing me to fully treat both horse and rider.
